    The initial engagement aimed to provide residents and local businesses with information about what a code is and how it is developed; and to find out who wanted to be involved and how. The results were used to inform the Consultation Strategy that guides the engagement process throughout the remaining stages of preparing the Design Code.

    During this project stage we listened to people who live and/or work in the borough. What you like and value about your local area or neighbourhood, what could be improved and whether there were opportunities for change. Your feedback provided on the Commonplace platform and during the face-to-face events helped us understand what makes your area distinctive and special, and to identify potential opportunities for positive change.
  • Creation of a Vision

    Winter 2022 - Complete

    Design Code will be based on a vision of how a place shall develop in the future. Based on your feedback, the Design Code Team prepared a draft vision for the local areas across the borough.

    At this stage we shared with you the draft vision for your local area and the draft principles. At the same time we sought your views, feedback and suggestions on how you wanted your area or neighbourhood to look and feel like in the future.
  • Draft Design Code

    Following the engagement with stakeholders in January and early February 2023, the design principles were used to guide the preparation of the Draft Design Code.
  • Statutory consultation on the Draft Design Code

    Complete

    Draft Elmbridge Design Code was subject to a formal consultation that ended on Sunday 5 November. The consultation included a questionnaire that was available on the Common Place platform for everyone interested to express their views on the content of the draft document.
  • Adoption of the Elmbridge Design Code as a Supplementary Planning Document

    Following the consultation that ended on 5 November 2023, the Draft Elmbridge Design Code is being updated based on the received comments. Following this stage the document will be adopted by the Council as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that will become a material consideration in determination of planning applications for new development.
